GRATITUDE

“If you want to turn your life around, try thankfulness. It will change your life mightily.”–          Gerald Good

Early one morning I went out to feed my horses and at this early hour the surrounding was awakened by a fabulous sunrise. I was standing in silent awe and my heart was filled with this enormous joy of life and a feeling that I wanted to say thank you to someone for all this beauty.

I believe many of you are familiar with this feeling, where you for some reason or another are filled with such gratitude that could make your heart burst.

This deep experience made me reflect upon my life, all my searching for whatever could satisfy my desires. This never ending search that makes me feel that what I have is not enough, making me want more free time, more money, more time left over for myself, more time to spend with my family, more spiritual evolution etc., etc; all those feelings of lack of something creating suffering within.

During this moment outside the stables in awe and admiration for the fabulous sunrise, I became deeply aware that, this deep gratitude filling the depths of my heart also filled me with the knowledge that all I have is more than enough, and that this, my attitude of gratitude made all my desires and all my searching cease, and when all my desires and searching disappeared there was no longer any suffering – just an enormous feeling of happiness.

My reflection over this experience is that the key to happiness is gratitude – to have an attitude of gratitude – to acknowledge and be grateful for what we have.

It is said we should count our blessings. And when we take an ordinary day and do that, we are reminded how much there is to be grateful for, that everything could be worse.

We are reminded that appreciation is a deep need within us, that gratitude can be difficult to express in words but that a simple and honest Thank You can travel far distances and last a long time.

Gratitude does something mighty with both us and others. Gratitude is double happiness since it blesses both the giver and the receiver, and when we live with gratitude as a keynote in life our whole existence becomes brighter and our whole life becomes an anthem to the Lord.

So my request to you all today is:

 Count your Blessings

Say “Thank you” and make sure that people receive attention so they know you value them

Let Gratitude enable you to experience life as a gift

I bless you with the Light of the Emerald Heart!
